Additional information: At UHN, the Advanced Therapies Clinic is related to the Movement Disorders Clinic at the Toronto Western Hospital. Our clinic provides the initial assessment and consultation for consideration of deep brain stimulation (DBS) and levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel (Duodopa) therapies. Currently, the disorders treated include: • Parkinson's Disease • Dystonia (including primary and secondary cervical, orofacial, segmental and generalized types) • Myoclonus • Tardive dyskinesia • Tremors We provide consultation and ongoing care for the cases that eventually undergo either of these therapies. Due to capacity we cannot take over ongoing care of all patients referred. Our waiting lists for patients range from 12 months to 18 months. To reduce our wait times, we currently only accept referrals if the following conditions are met: • Referrer is a neurologist • Patient has been referred to a local general neurologist for initial consultation and early follow-up • Referral is for a subspecialty clinic evaluation If an assessment by a local neurologist is not possible or the patient needs to be seen on an urgent basis, please contact the clinic and one of our physicians will be glad to discuss the case directly with you. Our office will respond to the referring physician within 14 days. We will notify patients and the referring physician’s office of the appointment details closer to the date of the appointment, which may be months after the referral is accepted.
