Who they see: Medical, social and/or end-of-life health care needs requiring 24/7 nursing support; 18 years or older; HIV+ or part of a community at higher risk of HIV; would benefit from an interdisciplinary team and have interest and willingness to engage in care programming and goal setting. Communities at higher risk of HIV due to the social determinants of health include people who identify as Indigenous; people experiencing negative impacts of substance use; racialized populations including newcomers and refugees; people with mental health concerns; Trans folks/gbMSM; people experiencing homelessness or without stable housing; people experiencing poverty; and people who have been incarcerated.
Not accepted: To be eligible for a Respite referral, clients must first be actively attending the Outpatient Program. Casey House does not use restraints of any kind (chemical or physical).

Additional information: ABOUT CASEY HOUSE: A specialty hospital in Toronto providing ground-breaking care to people living with and at risk of HIV. A mix of inpatient and outpatient services meets clients where they are in their individual journeys of health and wellness. We are Canada's first and only hospital for people living with and at risk of HIV, and have a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to health and well-being. INPATIENT CARE: Inpatient unit features 14 private rooms and a team of nurses, doctors, a clinical pharmacist, and allied health professionals, including social workers and mental health therapists. Together, the interdisciplinary team provides 24-hour sub-acute care for illnesses and infection, stabilization, HIV comorbidities, and end-of-life care. Our typical length of stay (LOS) for inpatient care is 2-4 weeks. CRITERIA: Medical, social and/or end-of-life health care needs requiring 24/7 nursing support; 18 years or older; HIV+ or part of a community at higher risk of HIV; would benefit from an interdisciplinary team and have interest and willingness to engage in care programming and goal setting. SERVICES: 24-hour nursing care and daily access to a physician; Social work services, including system navigation, support with discharge planning, support for clients and their loved ones around end-of-life care; Mental health support; Access to a clinical pharmacist; Massage therapy; Recreational therapy; Physiotherapy; Occupational therapy. Please note to be eligible for a Respite referral, clients must first be actively attending our Outpatient Program.
