Additional information: The CMH Regional Liver Health Centre accepts physician and nurse practitioner referrals from within the Region of Waterloo and Wellington County for the purpose of providing adult population of patients with diagnosis, treatment and management of advanced liver disease. This may include conditions such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) with advanced fibrosis, cirrhosis, acute hepatitis, among other liver disorders. Services include: 1. Hepatologist consult: Diagnosis, treatment and management 2. Screening, prevention and management of advanced liver disease – Cirrhosis 3. Dietitian and nursing consult services for MASLD and liver cirrhosis 4. Management and monitoring of patients with acute Hepatitis 5. Diagnostic attained all under one roof • All referrals triaged by Hepatology for medical urgency. • The Liver Health Clinic will call patients with appointment times. Additional information and resources about steatotic liver disease for health care providers and patients can be found on our website. * Due to high referral volumes, we are narrowing types of referrals to ensure access to care for those with advanced fibrosis, compensated or decompensated cirrhosis, acute severe hepatitis, etc. For patients not residing within the CMH catchment area, we will ask that any referrals for fatty liver (MASLD/MASH) or mildly elevated liver enzymes (<5X ULN) be referred to a local gastroenterologist (Kitchener/Waterloo/Guelph/Fergus etc) to be investigated initially. If there is established significant fibrosis (≥ stage 2) on initial investigations, then the patient can be referred to the LHC to assume care (either by primary care or local GI). This change will allow the LHC to assess patients with more advanced liver disease in a timelier manner. Published wait-time comments: Current referral wait times vary based on priority and triage by our Liver Health Clinic physicians: Urgent Referrals: Typically seen within a few weeks to 3 months, depending on triage by hepatology team. Semi-Urgent Referrals: Average wait times of 6 to 10 months. Non-Urgent Referrals: Average wait times of 10-12+ months.
