About this medication

  • Minoxidil (Rogaine) is a topical treatment applied to the scalp to help regrow hair lost to hereditary pattern baldness in men and women.

Treats hereditary pattern hair loss, not unexplained sudden or patchy loss.

How to use it

  • If you use the solution: apply it with the dropper provided directly onto a clean, dry scalp, then wash your hands well afterward.
  • If you use the foam: dispense the foam into your hand or onto a clean surface, then massage it gently into a clean, dry scalp with your fingertips, then wash your hands well afterward.
  • Apply only to the scalp — do not apply to any other part of the body.
  • Take this medicine exactly as directed by the Care365 care team or the product label. The men's products are applied twice a day; the women's foam is applied once a day.
  • Avoid inhaling the spray from the foam can, and avoid getting this medicine in your eyes; if it gets in your eyes, rinse well with cool water.
  • It usually takes at least two months of regular use before you notice new hair growth, and you need to keep using it to keep any regrowth.

If you miss a dose

  • If you miss an application, apply it as soon as you remember if it's within a few hours of your usual time; otherwise, skip it and go back to your normal schedule.
  • Do not apply extra or double up to make up for a missed application.

Follow the exact men’s or women’s product schedule. Apply to dry scalp and wash hands; ongoing use is needed to maintain benefit.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Avoid pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Before you use it

  • Tell your healthcare professional if you have heart disease, an irregular heartbeat, or high blood pressure, whether treated or not.
  • Tell the Care365 care team if your scalp is broken, infected, sunburned, or has a skin condition like psoriasis, since this medicine should not be used on damaged or irritated skin.
  • Tell the Care365 care team if your hair loss is sudden, patchy, or not a typical thinning pattern, since this medicine only works for hereditary pattern baldness and other causes need a doctor's evaluation.
  • Tell the Care365 care team if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or could become pregnant, since this medicine should not be used in these situations.

Important warnings

  • Do not swallow this medicine. Accidental swallowing can cause serious heart problems, including a dangerously fast heartbeat and low blood pressure, and needs emergency medical care.
  • Keep this medicine away from children and pets, and avoid letting a treated scalp touch a child's skin, since skin-to-skin contact has caused unwanted hair growth in infants and children.
  • Stop using this medicine and see a doctor if you get chest pain, a fast or pounding heartbeat, fainting, or sudden swelling of your hands, feet, or face.
  • Do not use more than the directed amount or apply it more often than directed — using more will not work faster and increases the risk of side effects.

Review blood pressure/heart disease and scalp inflammation before use. Keep treated skin away from infants.

Possible side effects

  • Itchy, dry, flaky, or irritated scalp
  • Redness of the scalp
  • Mild skin rash or acne where the medicine is applied
  • Headache
  • More hair shedding than usual in the first few weeks — this is often temporary as new hair growth begins
  • Changes in hair colour or texture
  • Cold-like symptoms, such as a runny nose or cough

Scalp irritation, dryness and unwanted hair growth.

When to get help

When to get emergency help

  • Chest pain, a fast or irregular heartbeat, or fainting
  • Sudden swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or trouble breathing
  • Sudden, unexplained weight gain or swelling of your hands or feet

When to contact a healthcare professional

  • If you notice unwanted hair growth on your face or other parts of your body that touch the treated area.
  • If your scalp becomes very irritated, blistered, or develops a rash that doesn't go away.
  • If you see no improvement in your hair after using this medicine consistently for a year.
  • If hair shedding continues for more than two weeks after starting treatment.

Chest symptoms, faintness, swelling or accidental swallowing need urgent assessment.

Other medicines and products

  • Tell the Care365 care team about other medicines or treatments you put on your scalp, such as prescription creams, since using them together with this medicine can change how much is absorbed into your skin.
  • This medicine is applied to the scalp, not swallowed, so there are no food or drink restrictions.
  • Avoid using this medicine together with bandages or dressings on the scalp.

Other scalp medicines can change absorption.

Missed doses, storage and accidental exposure

  • Store at room temperature, away from heat.
  • Keep the foam can upright and do not puncture or burn it, even when empty.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Follow your own product’s missed-dose instructions. If you are unsure, ask the Care365 clinical team before taking an extra dose. Contraceptives, injections and modified-release medicines may need a specific plan.

Keep the original packaging and follow its storage, expiry and disposal instructions. Keep medicines away from children and pets. Ask about refrigeration, after-opening limits and safe sharps disposal when relevant.

For suspected overdose or accidental swallowing, contact poison control or urgent medical care promptly. Call emergency services for breathing difficulty, collapse or a seizure.

Key points to remember

  • This medicine only works for hair loss caused by hereditary pattern baldness — it will not help other types of hair loss.
  • Results depend on continuing regular use; if you stop, any regrown hair is usually lost within a few months.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly every time after applying this medicine.
  • Apply only to the scalp — never to the face, eyebrows, or other body areas, since this can cause unwanted hair growth there.
